Introduction to the Book of Nehemiah
The Old Testament books of Ezra and Nehemiah tell us how God’s people that were exiled to Babylon for over 70 years, were led to return, rebuild and restore the nation of Israel. They did it in three movements – namely, rebuilding the temple of God, restore the laws and rebuild the city walls - in order to re-form and live out their God-given values and lifestyle. The stories therein give us hope and inspiration in this New Testament age to participate in pointing people to receive God’s grace, making them his holy temple and to keep building them (and ourselves!) to faithfulness and “ to obey all the things that Jesus taught”.
But as in the experiences of Ezra-Nehemiah, our efforts will likely be challenged and compromised simply because we are dealing with human flaws and brokenness. To that, these God chosen leaders offer us practical lessons in how to lead as examples and to overcome these and many other obstacles. They reveal to us how the church of today, by comparison, is so filled with the riches of God and assurance to complete the tasks under the leadership of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit!
The course is designed to provide graphic representations and practical guidance on how to apply these lessons in everyday interactions with ourselves, our family, our fellow workers and the community at large. The book of Nehemiah will benefit those believers to overcome their habitual falling out of faith and have a desire to restore and re-align their values and priorities in God’s way.
