Rooted & Fruitful (Part 12)

Speaker: Serene Lim

INTRODUCTION

Last week, we learned of the importance of unity in the body of Christ and how we are all joined together under the leadership of Jesus Christ, our chief cornerstone. This week, we continue to explore the unity of the Church. We learn that God’s original plan to have all His creation under the headship of His Son Jesus seems to have been thwarted when sin entered the world. Since then, Satan has used division as one of his main tactics to continually disrupt the plan of God, be it between Jews and Gentiles or even between fellow believers. But Satan ultimately lost when Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Every time believers in Christ walk in love and unity as one family, we demonstrate to all that we are His children, Satan is defeated, and God is victorious.

DISCUSSION

  1. Read Ephesians 3:3-6.
    1. What exactly is the Mystery of Christ?
    2. Besides keeping Satan guessing, why do you think God chose to only reveal this mystery after the death and resurrection of Christ?
    3. Read Acts 11:1-3, 11-18.

  2. How difficult do you think it was for Jewish believers like Paul and Peter to accept the Gentiles into the family of God?
    1. How did God help them?

  3. What can the church do to build unity between believers? Consider this locally, as in FGA and the global church.

  4. God’s ultimate goal is to see His children united and in submission to the headship of Jesus, His Son.
    1. Read Ephesians 3:10-13 Why is this important to God?
    2. What are some obstacles to achieving this goal?
    3. What are some ways that you can promote unity within the body of Christ?

WHAT WILL YOU DO

God has always welcomed anyone who seeks him. How can we exhibit the same traits as Him? Is there someone you have held back from sharing the gospel with? Love and Unity in Christ should mark us as believers. Is this true of your life as a believer? What is one thing you can do to show love to someone around you this week?

MEMORY VERSE

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:34-35
